Who are Two Raccoons?

Our aim

Two Raccoons are making delicious fruit wines by rescuing surplus fruits across Scotland. Surplus fruits are a massively underused resource and is a major cause of food waste across the world due to its short shelf-life. Wine can keep for ages, so fermentation is actually a great way of preserving leftover fruit!

How did you start?

Two Raccoons were born in the bins of Aberdeen, Scotland. Elliott and Lasse would frequently dumpster-dive during their time as students, and would often find excessive amounts of overripe fruits. After finding 50kg of blueberries with no space to store it, we turned to fermentation to help us preserve our fruity loot. We were rewarded with excellent fruit wine and an innovative idea on how to fight food waste.

We now work with food businesses, food banks and other organisations to repurpose their fruit surplus and turn it into wine. In 2021, we made over 10,000 litres of wine, and we are on the look-out for more!
The Scottish Government aims to reduce overall food waste by 33% by 2025, and Two Raccoons are providing a clear solution for businesses to meet this target.

We are always on the hunt for more fruit surplus, so get in touch if you have a hint!

Meet the raccoons!

Elliott Martens

Elliott is the practical mind behind Two Raccoons. When he is not admiring a shiny piece of stainless steel, he is either building some mysterious device or disassembling something in order to understand it. It is said he once fixed a bike using a bent coffee spoon and a torn shoelace.
